This is it: 2019 Subaru Crosstrek 2.0i Premium in Quartz Blue.
I took delivery last Monday and after ~500 miles, I must say I’m enjoying it so far.
The interior is very nice, save for a few pieces here and there. The fuel economy is excellent. The power is decent, and the CVT is significantly better than earlier iterations.
Expect many more posts to come!

Username continues to check out. Why not another forester?

I really liked my ‘13 Crosstrek when I had it. It was pretty much unstoppable with a set of snow tires. I eventually began to tire of the lack of ooomph when it was coupled with the CVT. But, maybe the current gen is less noticable.
Good luck with it!
Curious what kind of gas mileage you’ll eventually pull down. I topped out usually around 28mpg.

The new SK Forester was both bigger than I was looking for and more than I was looking to spend. The Crosstrek was just about right for what I’m needing for now.

It’s not fast, but neither was the Forester ( nor was the ‘99 Camry 2.2L that I drove before it ). I haven’t really gotten on it yet, so I’m going to reserve final judgement until I’m past 1,000 miles. The CVT tuning seems to be a lot better than the earlier models ( there is a ‘15 Forester in the family, too ).
I ran Blizzak WS80s on the Forester, and plan to run a set of snow tires on the Crosstrek, too. The wheels should fit, too which is a bonus.
On-board is reading 32.5 MPG, which is 10 MPG above what the Forester would read on-board
. I’ll be very curious to run a tank through and take a hand calculation though
.

A friend of mine who is not a car person in the least always complained about his first gen being slow (super surprising since he is usually the first to say that a car too is too fast). I think there’s only a 6hp difference between 1st and 2nd gen, but I wonder if they changed the torque curve / transmission to work better together. His commute was up/down a 900ft high hill, so his experience may have been colored by that.
I’m looking forward to hearing about it’s practicality. They are awesomely utilitarian.

Congrats, I love the Crosstrek. Think it’s one of the best looking vehicles Subaru makes. Having owned a 1 st gen and now on an Outback, I miss the Crosstrek a ton . The Outback feels much peppier with its 2.5 than the 1 st gen, but hopefully the current gen is better with the updated CVT (and I think it got a slight power bump?). It’s a great all rounder car, if we can get back in to one someday when we don’t need to haul strollers and suitcases full of toddler stuff I’d be very happy.

They aren’t fast, that’s for sure. Adequate is how I would describe it. The newer CVT tuning is definitely a lot better than the earlier models. This is especially noticeable off the line, where the old tuning didn’t like to gain speed too quickly from a start . The hp gain was only 4 hp, but I believe the peak torque and peak hp were both brought down by a few hundred rpm ( not a lot though ). The EJ253 and 4EAT combo with 4.444 final drive gearing was definitely a bit snappier to accelerate and a bit more powerful feeling, but I’m getting much better fuel economy for not much sacrifice.
I’m looking forward to getting some use out of the practicality and reporting back . It’s not going to be quite as good as the Forester, which was basically a box on wheels, but it should still be pretty good.

Thanks! The 2.0 isn’t the fastest thing in the world, but it gets the job done. Overall, the Crosstrek feels great to drive, and I agree it’s probably the best looking in the lineup currently.
I’m mainly hauling canoes, bikes, and camping gear in some combination when things are required to be hauled, so the Crosstrek should fit the bill quite well!

Try finding one on a dealer lot!
Thanks! Quartz Blue is a fantastic color on these. The grey interior is also quite nice; it brighten’s it up compared to the all black interior:
If Pittsburgh works out next summer like it has the past few years, we’re going to have a mini-gathering in Butler now...

This is Subaru #2 for me, #4 in the immediate family, and I think # 11 if you count extended family. I’ve been quite happy with all of ours ( for the most part... )

Yeah even with the older car the 2.0 was slow, but it was totally fine for a non-enthusiast vehicle. If the newer car is even a bit faster than that I’d say that’s just icing on the cake.

The new Forester is really nice, but gigantic. Also laden with excessive modern conveniences in Limited trim. I’m not sure if it’s bigger than the new Rav4, but it certainly feels like it inside and out.

Nice. I especially like the color.
We picked up our 2019 Crosstrek in July, and really like it. In a few weeks, we will be taking it on a vacation that includes about 1,500 miles of driving. I will post more about it after the trip.

Quartz Blue Pearl is nice. I was initially between Dark Gray Metallic and Crystal White Pearl, but the Quartz Blue just looks fantastic in person.
I look forward to hearing about your vacation experiences driving over 1,500 miles. I’ve only done a few 2 hour trips in the Crosstrek so far, but I can already tell that it is a lot more comfortable than the ‘09 Forester for longer drives, mainly the seat.
I’m curious on your real-
world
feedback on the flexible
strut tower brace, too. I saw your initial post back in July, which put it on my radar. I’ve never put too much stock into strut tower braces on cars that have the strut towers so close to the firewall, but it kinda sounds like
the flexible brace might actually do something.
